The Canadian Centre of Recovery Excellence (CoRE), in collaboration with the University of Calgary, is conducting a province-wide survey to better understand the mental health and substance use experiences of Albertans.
The information gathered through this survey will help inform future mental health and addiction services across Alberta.
It has been more than 20 years since Alberta collected this type of information on mental health and addiction. Since then, a lot has changed and these changes have shaped our current communities and wellbeing.
This survey will help us understand:
• The current mental health and wellbeing of Albertans
• Experiences with substance use and addiction
• Experiences during recovery journeys
• The types of services and supports Albertans need today
The insights gathered will help ensure future mental health and addiction services are guided by evidence and real experiences and tailored to support Albertan’s who may be on the path to mental health or addiction recovery.
Beginning in Spring 2026, approximately 14,000 randomly selected households across Alberta will receive an invitation to participate.
Information about the study, including detailed informed consent, will be provided to all selected households if they chose to participate.
Participants will have the option to complete the survey:
• Online
• By telephone
Individuals who participate will receive a small honorarium as a thank you for their time.
Because the survey uses random selection, only households that receive an invitation are able to participate.
Personal information will be kept secure and confidential. Following project completion, your personal information will be replaced with a study code before data analysis begins. Neither your individual answers nor your personal information will appear in any reports of results.
