The article explores best practices for conducting Mental and Behavioral Disorder Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs). These examinations aim to provide unbiased medical opinions for legal and administrative purposes, ensuring that assessments are both accurate and impartial for those suffering from mental health concerns or mental illness.
The research involved a comprehensive literature review aimed at updating best practices for conducting Mental and Behavioral Disorder IMEs. The review process included systematic searches in three major databases: Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, and APA PsycINFO. The gathered evidence was categorized into four distinct levels: required, strong recommendation, weak recommendation, and no recommendation. This categorization was designed to provide a clear and pragmatic framework for evaluating the strength of evidence supporting various practices in Mental and Behavioral Disorder IMEs.
